Living on a farm, my wife and me have had chickens for years - both a commercial flock in a regenerative moveable chicken tractor, and a small domestic flock that live in our orchard.
Our domestic flock are a mix of breeds we either like the look of or birds we’ve taken out of the commercial flock for various behavioral reasons, or if they have needed a bit of extra care.
"Wooden Coops - an expensive investment over time"
For our domestics, over the years we’ve tried many wooden coops in many shapes and sizes. We’ve also put to the test coops we’ve inherited from friends and neighbours that have given up their chickens for various reasons.
But over time, every wooden we’ve had - no matter how expensive it was - suffered from the same problems. They quickly started to look tatty, they were difficult to clean as they had loads of gaps and cracks, or hinges and metal fittings started to fall off. Yearly painting to try and keep the coop going was a burden and eventually the original smooth sides started to get quite lumpy as the layers built up. Overall, over time these coops added up to be quite an expensive investment.
Our love for chickens and chicken coops has continued. We’ve taken the best features from the best coops we have used, combined these with the best performing materials and then added a design that we think your chickens will love, will make your garden look great and make you smile. These aren’t the cheapest of coops, but they will save you money, time and hassle over time..
We then started to question why wood, and started looking around the farm for other materials that would perform far better then wood. Combining high-performing recycled plastic sheeting with a love for solving problems through design, our first funky Vintage TV chicken coop was born. A chicken coop has to function well, but why can’t it look fun too.
